As educators who have traveled with students, we know that one of the best places for students to learn is outside of our classrooms. On field trips, students get the opportunity to interact with history, science, and math concepts with real world implications. They gain unique social skills and global awareness through their time in a different place.
Best of all, they have fun. Students engagement is the key to meaningful learning and we increase engagement when we vary the context of learning. |
Our two-day, one-night trips usually cost about $250 per person (student or adult chaperone). We establish a payment schedule early in the year that asks families to make an initial non-refundable deposit that allows us to make plans with our tour company. Second and third payments are due at 4-6 week intervals, with the final payment due in January. Payment may be made in cash, check, or credit card (through the Online School Payments portal).
Wake County Public School System rules limit fundraising activities quite strictly. As a result, we do not anticipate a team-wide or grade-level-wide fundraiser in support of the field trip. Need-based scholarships are available for those whom the trip cost poses a financial burden. |
